Sent via email to customers at 22:00 on Tuesday, 20 November 2007.
We are currently in the process of upgrading to the latest version of cPanel, version 11. We will send out more information about cPanel 11 shortly.

However, before we can upgrade to the new version of cPanel, some system software needs to be upgraded.

-------------------------
WHAT’S HAPPENING?
-------------------------
Email storage system will be converted from "mbox" to "maildir" format. The "Maildir" mail storage format is much faster than the old "mbox" format and speeds up the functionality of the mail server and reduces memory usage due to mail related processes. Also, cPanel will no longer be supporting the old "mbox" format, so we really have no choice but to upgrade.

------------------------
WHEN?
------------------------
This scheduled maintenance will begin in the early hours of tomorrow morning (Wednesday, 21 November 2007).

------------------------
HOW DOES THIS AFFECT YOU?
------------------------
The conversion from mbox to the new maildir format will last between 10 minutes and several hours, depending on the amount of email that needs to be converted. During this time, all email sent to you will queued for delivery after the conversion process is finished.

There will be no downtime and your website will continue to load as normal. The only change is that receiving email will be slightly delayed whilst the conversion is taking place.

Major changes:
1. Emails will now be stored in individual files (one for each email) instead of one giant "inbox" file.
2. The mailbox "aging" feature will no longer be available
3. If you use an "IMAP" mail client (ie: Squirrelmail, Horde, etc), you may have to "re-subscribe" to your mailbox folders.

------------------------
QUESTIONS?
------------------------
If you have any questions or concerns regarding this upcoming scheduled maintenance, please email support@cyberhostuk.net or Submit a Support Ticket.

I am delighted to announce that the Mbox to Maildir conversion was completed successfully by our techs in the early hours of this morning.

For those that are interested, here is a little more information about Maildir:
Maildir is a widely used format for storing e-mail that does not require application-level file locking to maintain message integrity as messages are added, moved and deleted. Unlike the previous Mbox format which stores emails in one large single file, Maildir stores each message in a separate file with a unique name. This format will be less resource intensive and prevent issues such as locked in-boxes and duplicate messages from failed downloads.

Re-subscribing your Email Folders
Due to the conversion of mail folders, anyone using an IMAP client or webmail application (i.e. SquirrelMail or Horde) will need to re-subscribe to their folders before those folders will become visible. Note that the mail within these folders has not been lost - the folders simply are not immediately visible because of the conversion process, which begins the folder name with a dot.

Some new directories in the /mail/ folder of your root FTP have been added. These must not be removed under any circumstances.

This is a one time operation and should be done for EACH email account. Folders created from now on will be automatically named in the new, correct format.

How-to for SquirrelMail Users:
1. Log into Squirrel Mail and select ‘Folders’ from the top menu
2. Scroll down to a section entitled ‘Unsubscribe/Subscribe’, where you should see your email folders listed
3. Click on one folder at a time and click the ‘Subscribe’ button
4. Repeat this process until you have subscribed to as many folders as you wish to
5. Finish by clicking on ‘Refresh folder list’ or ‘Check for new mail’ (upper left navigation). Your folders should then appear in the folders list on the left hand side and the mail within those folders will become available for viewing and other operations

How-to for Horde Users:
1. In the main account click on the "Folders" icon at the top of the screen
2. Choose the "Rebuild Folder Tree" option from the dropdown box
3. the "Check Folders for New Mail" option from the same box

How-to for Microsoft Outlook Users:
1. In Mail, in the left navigation Pane click the Inbox for the IMAP account
2. On the Tools menu, click ‘IMAP Folders’ and then ‘Query’
3. In the Folders box, click the folder you want to subscribe to. To select multiple folders, hold down CTRL while clicking folder names. Click 'Subscribe'

How-to for Mozilla Users:
1. Right-click on the server name in the list of mail servers on the left panel
2. Left-click "Subscribe"
3. It will show a list of all possible folders on mailhost
4. Tick the box next to each folder and click the "Subscribe" button

How-to for Thunderbird Users:
1. Right-click on your account name (generally the parent of the tree structure)
2. The first option is "Subscribe." Check all the folders you want to subscribe to

Anyone having issues can email support or open a ticket for assistance.
